Terms of service
Last updated: 3 October 2026
Draft — this document will be reviewed by counsel before MOTORAVI accepts payments.
These terms govern your use of MOTORAVI, an online marketplace that connects buyers outside Japan with independent, verified used-car dealers in Japan.
1. Our role
MOTORAVI is a marketplace. Vehicles are listed and sold by independent dealers. MOTORAVI is not the seller, an importer of record, a customs broker, a shipping line or a bank, and is not a party to the sale contract between you and a dealer except where these terms say otherwise.
We verify dealers' business registration before they can publish listings, moderate listings and messages, and provide tools for inquiries, offers and order milestones.
2. Accounts
You must be at least 18 and able to enter into binding contracts. Keep your login details secure; you are responsible for activity on your account.
Dealers must provide accurate company information (including corporate number and, where applicable, invoice registration number) and keep it current.
3. Estimates are not determinations
Import eligibility checks and landed-cost figures are estimates based on published rules, fees, shipping rates and exchange rates on the date shown. They are not legal, tax or customs advice, and they are not a guarantee that a vehicle can be imported or registered, or of its final cost.
Rules change, and the authorities of the destination country make the final decision. Confirm requirements with a licensed customs broker and the relevant registration authority before you commit to a purchase.
4. Listings
Dealers are responsible for the accuracy of their listings, including condition, mileage, auction grade, photos and price. Listings must describe real vehicles that the dealer has the right to sell.
We may hide or remove listings that appear inaccurate, duplicated, fraudulent or in breach of these terms.
5. Inquiries, offers and orders
Offers made through MOTORAVI are made in Japanese yen and expire if not answered. When a dealer accepts an offer, the vehicle is reserved and an order is created that tracks agreed milestones (deposit, inspection, export, shipping, delivery).
The sale contract is between the buyer and the dealer. MOTORAVI does not receive or hold payments; payment terms are shown on the order page.
Sourcing requests (“Find me a car”): the dealer buys the car itself and sells it to you through MOTORAVI. Quotes are estimates of the expected price and fees, not a guarantee that a matching car will be found or won at auction. Deposits are governed by the MOTORAVI standard deposit terms shown with every quote: a deposit is an advance on the price of at most 30% of the quoted car price, refunded in full if no matching car is secured in time, and if you decline a matching car the dealer may keep only documented costs actually incurred.
6. Prohibited conduct
Do not share or request phone numbers, email addresses, messaging handles, websites or bank details in order to move a deal off the platform, and do not arrange payment outside the instructions shown on your order page. Messages are scanned automatically and contact details are masked.
Also prohibited: fraudulent or misleading listings; harassment; scraping or automated access without permission; attempts to bypass security; and using MOTORAVI for anything unlawful, including export or sanctions violations.
Reviews: only buyers who complete a purchase may review the dealer, once per purchase. Don't post false reviews, and don't offer, ask for or accept anything in return for a review. Dealers may reply and report a review but cannot edit or remove it.
7. Fees
Browsing and inquiries are free for buyers. During the pilot MOTORAVI charges no fees to buyers or dealers. Any future buyer service fee or dealer fee will be shown before you commit, and we will give notice before introducing or changing fees.
8. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms, put other users at risk or are needed to comply with law. You may close your account at any time; some records are retained as described in the privacy policy.
9. Liability
MOTORAVI is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the condition, legality or delivery of vehicles, for decisions of customs or registration authorities, or for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including rights you have as a consumer where you live.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and the Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction for the first instance, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence.
11. Changes and contact
We will post changes on this page and, for material changes, notify account holders in advance. Questions: support@motoravi.com.
